お茶一杯の報酬

昔々、とある田舎のとある農夫、いつもの様に農作業をしていると、散歩の途中らしき男性があぜに腰掛けてこちらを眺めていました。
この暑さでさぞや喉がかわいているに違いないと農夫は男性に声をかけ、持っていた水筒のお茶を一杯差し出しました。
「こんな所で暮らすのが夢なんです。今日はお休みでぶらぶらしていました。」などと世間話をする男性と意気投合し、農夫はその夜男性を自分の家に泊める事に。
実はその男性、なんと誰もが知っているあの清涼飲料水メーカーの社長でありました。
「この山に別荘を作りたい」との申し出を農夫は承諾しました。
家の裏手から畑へ続く斜面を見上げると別荘だけでなく、小さな茶室まで出来ました。
休日は別荘でぼんやりと過ごす社長。
不在の間はこの農夫がせっせと管理。
月日は流れ、社長が亡くなると、さぁこの別荘どうしたものかと社長の奥様にお伺いを立てる。
すると御婦人は「永い間管理をしていただきありがとうございます。私共何しろ遠方でなかなかそちらへは出向く事もかないませんので。」と別荘と茶室を農夫に譲り渡したというのだ。
金の茶室とまではいかないけれど、子供の頃からこの素朴な茶室を見て不思議に思っていた。
信じられないような話だけれど一杯のお茶をふるまいそれが茶室に化けるなんて、人には親切にするもの。
最近親戚の集まる機会があってそこで聞いた昔話。
これは私の曾祖父のむかしむかしのお話。
「ほんまかいな！！」と興奮したものの、曾祖父の本宅とその茶室のバランス感覚を考えると信じざるをえない。

    茶室だけじゃなくてどこまで甘えこむのか………
